DEVIKULAM  (7 Km. from Munnar)

This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawas, exotic flora and fauna and cool mountain air is a rare experience.  Lake and the tea plantations are the major attractions.

PALLIVASAL (8 Km. from Munnar)

This is the venue of the first Hydro Electro Project in Kerala and a place of immense scenic beauty.

ATTUKAL (9 Km. from Munnar)

A panorama of water falls and rolling hills, Attukal,  located between Munnar and Pallivasal is a feast for the eyes.  The place is also ideal for long treks.

NYAYAMKAD (10 Km. from Munnar)

Located between Munnar and Marayoor.  Nyayamkad is a land of breath taking water falls.  The water cascade down a hill from height of about 1600 meters.

MATTUPETTY (13 Km. from Munnar)

Situated at a height of 1700m. Mattupetty is known for its highly specialized dairy farm,   the Indo Swiss Livestock Project.  Over a 100 varieties of high yielding cattle are reared here.  The Mattupetty lake and dam, just a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful picnic spot.

CHITHIRAPURAM (12 Km.  from Munnar)

With its sleepy little cottages, bungalows, old play grounds and courts, Chithirapuram still exudes  an old world charm, also very famous for its picturesque tea plantations.

RAJAMALA         (15 Km from Munnar)

This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri.  Half the world population of the rare maountain goat (Hemitragas Hylocres)  which if fast becoming extinct, is now found here.  There are different species of animals and birds like barking deer, gour, giant, Malabar squirrel, tiget, panther, wolf, black bird, jungle crow etc.

ECHO POINT (15 Km. from Munnar)

This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here.  The exotic cattle, rose gardens, lush green meadows.

KUNDALA (20 Km. from Munnar)

Kundala is a picturesque  town on the way to top station.  The gold course which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd. is located here and Kundala Artificial Dam.

TOP STATION (32 Km. from Munnar)

1700m above seal level. This is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road.  The rare Neelakurunji belongs to this region.  This blooms once  in  every twelve years,  bathing the hill sides in bright blue.  Top station also offers a panoramic view of the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.

East slop of ‘Western Ghats” reaching to this beautiful valley, laying with the smell of Sandal woods that makes it the seventh heaven of Sandal Grove, named Marayoor.

Agastyamuni (Hindu Mythological Saint) spend his last days here.  He predicted that the whole world will come to see the enchanting beauty of Marayoor and to smell the sandal wood breeze here.  This becomes true now.

This is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of sandal wood trees and sandal wood depot of the Forest Department.  The sceneries of Maryoor gives diversity in every aspect of the land and culture.  Hamlets, Rocky Hills, Rivers Brook and Water falls deliver enchanting and rejuvenating experience to the soul and mind.

The caves with mural and relics from the new stone, age civilization, ancient cave temples, muniyaras, Neolithic period’s stone coffins are all in store for the visitors especially for the archeological students.

Different species of animals and plants, sugar cane farms (its Jaggery), lemongrass oil, children’s park spread across a hectre of land under the canopy of a single banyan tree, Rajive Gandhi National Park, ‘Thoovanam” water falls are of great interest to tourists in Marayoor.

Marayoor is also a unique place where tourism meet adventures. The rate ‘Neelakurinji flowers’ is native to Marayoor.

CHINNAR WILDLIFE SANTURY (70 Km. from Munnar)

The Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary  is situated on both sides of Marayoor Munnar Udumalpetta road.  This road cuts through the sanctuary.  Rare varieties of wild animals, elephants and gaur besides some rare birds.  There are watch towers erected in the forests with permission from the forest authorities.  One can use it to spend a night watching wild life.  The best time for animal sightings is the evenings and early mornings.

MARAYOOR & KANTHALLOOR, THE VALLEYS OF NEELAKURINJI

Kurinji Plants generally blossom at a height of 1600m above the seal level.  It’s scientific name is strobillanthes Kuntheanus.  These flowers blooms once in 12 years.  They blooms in plenty in the beautiful valleys of Marayoor, Munnar and Kanthalloor making them more beautiful.  The Government of Kerala declared Munnar, Marayoor and Kanthalloor as the “Kurinji Sanctuary” in 2006.

Mannavanchola, a spot for adventures.

From Marayoor you can have an adventurous trekking to Mannavanchola, the famous virgin forest in Kanthalloor.  From the Watch tower here one can see the blue of the deep forests and the beautiful places like Kanthalloor, Marayoor, chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and Amaravathy lake.  From Mannavanchola you can go easily to Kundala Dam.  On your way enjoy the beautiful sight of rare species of orchids.
